The Network of Routes of Emperor Charles V has held its 2020 General Assembly, an event which has been developed in an online format due to the current circumstances, and which has had a high level of participation from members of the network, close to 45 partners.
The President of the Network of Routes, Miguel Ángel Martín, and the Network's Managing Director, Quintín Correas, reviewed the activities carried out throughout 2020, which were limited in number due to the situation caused by the COVID-19, including the celebration of the web seminar commemorating the Fifth Centenary of the Coronation of Emperor Charles V. This event was very well attended over the four days it was held, with an average of 230 people following each meeting live. Hundreds of followers joined the event via social networks, which opens the door to future similar events to be held by the Road Network; and highlighted the collaboration agreements signed with this network, with institutions such as the Teatro Real in Madrid or the Universidad Europea Miguel de Cervantes in Valladolid, among others, which resulted in various activities developed in online format, or which have been postponed until 2021.
Both Miguel Ángel Martín Ramos and Quintín Correas highlighted the four European projects in which the Network of Routes of Emperor Charles V is taking part: Erasmus+ KA105: Let's cook our heritage, let's cook our future, Erasmus+ KA105: Circular Cultural Tourism, Creative Europe: European Cultural Routes as key actors in the promotion of European cultural heritage (WalkEUR), Erasmus+ KA204: Fab Routes, Digital Skill to promote EU Cultural Routes. These are projects that aim to develop different areas of interest for the partners of the Routes Network, and which represent a tool for the cultural, economic and social dynamisation of these partners and their spheres of influence.
On the other hand, the General Assembly of the Network of Routes of Emperor Charles V approved the programme of activities, the budget for 2021, and the calendar of routes planned for next year, provided that circumstances allow it. In this sense, emphasis was placed on the development of activities that will encourage collaboration and interaction between the different members of the network; the implementation of different projects, including the launch of publications related to the Routes of Emperor Charles V; the incorporation of new towns to the route, such as Burgos, Logroño and the municipality of Alaraz (Salamanca); and other proposed activities, such as the cycle routes, the organisation of travelling concerts, the photographic competition with the organisation of travelling exhibitions, or a meeting on the Revolts in the time of Charles V.
It should also be mentioned that the next General Assembly of the Network of Routes of Emperor Charles V will take place in Medina del Campo in August 2020, as well as in Simancas the meeting of the Scientific Committee if circumstances allow.
